FormantMonitor

    Introduction

FormantMonitor monitors the first and second formants of speech as it is spoken. Hence it is similar to formant display in that it allows the inspection of the first and second formants. However, it is done dynamically, using the Segmenter class to isolate the individual words. When a portion of word becomes available (is spoken) the segmenter forwards that portion to the (formant analyser which extracts the formants and plots them. Each sound is automatically assigned a distinct color to make it easier to distinguish the words. Because we are using threads, the processing continues after the stop button is pushed, in order to complete the analysis of all sound data acquired.

Below we examine a run where the words "beet", "bat", "bird", and "boot" were spoken. You should be able to identify which word is which.
